Context
Salla is one of the largest commerce platforms in the region, powering a substantial share of Saudi online retail. For merchants, the platform decision is easy — the hard part is standing out on it, in Arabic, with an experience that actually converts.
Most themes and apps in the ecosystem are translated, not designed, for the Saudi customer. That gap is where I work.
Problem
Arabic-first commerce is not a checkbox. Reading order changes hierarchy. Typography changes density. Trust signals, payment expectations, and browsing behavior differ from the Western defaults most templates inherit. Merchants feel this as one symptom: traffic that doesn't convert.
My Role
I design and build across the full Salla stack — storefront themes on the Twilight engine, apps on the partner platform, and the commerce strategy that decides what a merchant actually needs.
- Theme design and Twilight (Twig) implementation
- Salla app architecture — OAuth, webhooks, embedded pages
- Custom commerce UX and conversion design
- Arabic-first, RTL-native design systems
Strategy
Salla is a specialist capability inside a broader product practice, not the whole practice. I approach every store as a product problem first: who is the customer, what builds trust, what removes friction — then implement natively on the platform rather than fighting it.
Selected Work
Rather than one project, this practice spans several builds at different stages — each one a distinct commerce thesis.
Anjiz
In developmentA services-marketplace theme that rethinks Salla's product-centric layouts for businesses that sell services, bookings, and expertise rather than physical goods.
Azyaa
In developmentA fashion theme designed for sale to Saudi fashion merchants — editorial product presentation, Arabic-first typography, and a lightweight front end (≈85 KB gzipped first load).
Consent AI for Salla
Pre-launchA Salla app bringing AI-generated product imagery into merchants' existing workflow — an extension of my own AI product into the Salla ecosystem.
Experience Design
Every theme starts as a working design prototype — a real, interactive React build used to pressure-test layout, typography, and RTL behavior before a line of Twig is written. It is a slower start and a much faster finish.
Implementation
Themes are implemented natively on Twilight with performance budgets treated as design constraints — payload size, image strategy, and interaction cost are decided at design time, not discovered at launch.
Apps are built on Salla's partner platform: OAuth flows, webhook-driven lifecycles, and embedded dashboard pages that feel native to the merchant's daily workflow.

Reflection
Platform work rewards respect for the platform. The best Salla experiences don't look like clever workarounds — they look like what Salla would have built if it had one merchant to serve instead of tens of thousands.
